The Doors and Flagstones of San Miguel D’allende

The genesis of this captivating series of paintings traces back to my sojourn in San Miguel De Allende, Mexico, during the year 2021. Amidst my travels, it is the act of wandering, of immersing myself in the unfamiliar, that ignites my creative spirit – capturing the splendor of discoveries through the lens of my camera.

It’s often the overlooked minutiae, the treasures brushed aside by many, that unfurl their essence onto my artistic canvas upon my return. Among these hidden treasures, the myriad doors that graced my daily strolls emerged as an enchanting obsession. The intricacies unveiled in the photographs I meticulously took beckoned to be immortalized and transcribed. The resulting paintings, though not strict replicas, materialized as visual narratives sculpted from the interplay of shape and hue.

In tandem with this fixation, the flagstones underfoot assumed a parallel allure – particularly when the sun’s tender touch elevated their chromatic spectrum, casting intricate shadows and modulating tonal cadences. To encapsulate the subtleties, the cadences, the very essence of what had captured my heart, I turned to watercolour pencils and gouache. These mediums proved ideal conduits, allowing me to encapsulate the intricate interplay of light and shade, hues and contours that had bewitched me.

Though modest in scale, I envision these pieces ensconced within expansive ivory matting and ensnared by sleek, white frames. Such a presentation not only amplifies the impact of the artwork but also coalesces the immersive experience, drawing the viewer into the enchanting world I endeavor to convey.
